Halland County Council has decided to introduce a Care Administration System (CAS).

This is a uniform, common patient record system for all forms of health care in Halland County Council. The aim is obtain a coherent image of patients’ state of health and care. This will also make it possible to create safer, more accessible, more efficient care.

One of the single most extensive parts of the introduction is that at Varberg Hospital. The local project manager of the introduction is Christer Allenmark, who works as operations manager at the orthopaedic clinic. To guarantee successful introduction, Varberg Hospital has chosen to hire Ekan as the external project manager and project manager support. The project is planned to run from June 2008 to December 2009, when the aim is for CAS to have been completely introduced in all clinics at Varberg Hospital. This also means that the personnel must be trained in the system and feel secure about working in it.

The local goals for the introduction of CAS at Varberg Hospital are to minimise the number of manual routines, optimise the hospital’s processes and create uniform working methods in CAS.

“It is important for everyone who is to work with CAS to understand why we are changing patient record systems and to be involved in the work to make the transition as smooth as possible,” stresses Christer Allenmark.
